In an active directory environment, where all users are not local administrators. How can they run UnrealFrontend.exe as administrators? We don’t want to give them an administrator password. Can any GPO permit this?
Has anyone found an answer to this?
I just encountered this issue too and have sorted it out AOK.
Problem:
When launching unreal engine, (non admin) user is prompted every single launch for Administrator credentials.
Tried but didn’t resolve:
Setting permissions on every key in the registry for Epic with users having read/write
Solution:
- Logging into a server with my network administrator account
- Browsing to \hw000404\c$\Program Files (x86)\Epic Games (on the affected machine)
- Disabling inherited permissions by adding them to the folder explicitly
- Adjusting them so users have full control
- Hitting apply, then waiting patiently for it to actually apply them to every file and folder.
- At the conclusion of the above, I am now able to launch Unreal Engine without administrator rights.
