Royalty on ads powered games

Hello Luca,

Short answer: Yes.

Long answer from the FAQs:

If I release a commercial product, what royalties are due to Epic, and when?

Generally, you are obligated to pay to Epic 5% of all gross revenue for your product, regardless of what company collects the revenue. For example, if your product earns $10 from sales on the App Store, the royalty due is $0.50 (5% of $10), even though you would receive roughly $7 from Apple after they deduct their distribution fee of roughly $3 (30% of $10).

What about downloadable content, in-app purchases, microtransactions, virtual currency redemption, and subscription fees, as well as in-app advertising and affiliate program revenue?

Revenue from these sources is included in the gross revenue calculation above.

I develop games mainly for Android and iOS platform. My games are free, and are powered by a bunch of advertising.
I’d like to give UE4 a try, so I’m going to pay 19€ for it. I’d like to know if I still should pay 5% to epic games, if my game is free and powered by ads.
Also, how can I pay that royalty to epic games ?

Thanks and sorry for the noob question

Bah Wes beat me to it!

Ok cool, but how can I pay those royalty to Epic Games ? and how can I prove that I’m paying the right amount of money ??

Also, Can I publish my game if I don’t renew the the subscription ? (eg. If I pay for just the 1st month)

And yes, you can still publish your game.

Thanks
