Rotating "pendulum" pivot point changes with collision enabled

Hi, I am currently working on a VR game in a giant sphere.

The character ship is made in 3DS Max but when i add collisions on to the ship mesh at the bottom (the ship has a very high pivot point which is locked in the center of the sphere) the ship will only rotate around its own center point and not the pivot point it rotates around without collisions.

My question is, can i add collisions to my ship whilst keeping the pivot point above it (as it is without)?
