Root Motion moves in the opposite direction

Hello.
I had a character and an animation. Everything seemed normal. My character moved forward, and I could see the ‘red line’ of root, until I enabled Root Motion, it started to move backwards.
Before I had this problem, I made other characters and they behaved well. Only this character, its root motion was always in the opposite direction, in both x and y axis.

Any ideas are welcome and appreciated.
Thanks!

Hey @Min1!

Interesting. Are the values changing in the opposite direction?

Also something to note… The widget shows that the character is not facing forward, it’s facing to the right, which can cause a whole lot of issues and confusion. It’s possible that might have something to do with it! Other than that it’s hard to say with two .gifs and no further details to compare. Check that the root motion on the animations match the ABP you’re using, settings included.

Maybe get us the Asset details window and the location data for the first window to compare to the second?

@Mind-Brain Thanks for your advice! It worked.

I compared the settings of my character with those of UE Mannequins, and checked ‘Use T0 As Ref Pose’, ‘Update Skeleton Reference Pose’. After that it worked. Now my root motion moves in correct direction. The only thing is, I’m not clear about what happened behind.

Besides, when I tried unchecking the options above, it did not perform unusually as before. It was as if the problem never existed. So I’m sorry I was unable to record the location of the anomaly.

For people who had similar problems, though I dont know which made it work, there was what I did:

  • Reimport fbx to blender, and check if there was some constrains affecting root bone rotation.

  • In Skeletal Mesh → Skeleton Tree, select root bone → Details, check if Bone Rotation is same as Reference

  • Compare with UE Mannequins or other characters, their ImportSettings point by point

Anyway I’m glad that it worked.

Thanks again!
