Robot Football - Short Cinematic

Hey all, I’ve been doing some UE5 Cinematics practise using Lumen, Time Editor, Sequencer and whichever comes with making cool looking stuff, so I thought I’d upload what I’ve been working on in my spare time.

There isn’t any audio because I suck at audio FX : (, but I bought some mocap clips online of football and just improvised from there. I did originally render with path tracing but it was too meh for me to use in a final render, but I reckon with time I’ll be more confident enough. It’s similar to Vray/Arnold but a bit more technical I feel like.

The clips were arranged in Mayas time editor and did alot of manual keyframing for the ball and some mocap cleanup.

All assets were bought from UE Marketplace and I used all Quixel assets for the environment. The one thing I really like is how easy it is to make changes and see it instantly update in real time. That and the LiveLink plugin made life alot easier for sending mocap fixes through.

I could have spent a bit more time with some more visual fidelity stuff but I think this would have never been posted if I was always working so I gave myself a week to get this made, from an empty scene to the final piece.

Heres a few screenshots below from the animation which you can view here: YOUTUBE LINK

Greetings @SA3D !

Welcome back! :muscle:

Move over Boston Dynamics, we’ve got Robot Football here! :soccer: Ya know, I’ve been thinking about all those who are lucky enough to afford a mocap suit/rental and you’ve just made me realize that you could buy mocap clips! :exploding_head: Sometimes we get so absorbed in our own tiny worlds that things that should be obviously possible go over our heads.

Anyhow, I really enjoyed your short! The lighting, the environment, and the camera angles are flourished with perfection! In your practice with UE5 cinematic aspects, what was the most challenging and the most rewarding?

It’s cool that you don’t have any audio. Perhaps you could challenge fellow devs in a contest to see who could give it the best audio FX!

Hey @Get_DOVAH_it,

Thank you so much for the kind words!

I think thats a really great idea! I’m still new to these forums so I’ll be sure to find a way to see if theres any audio folks who’d want to do some sound design for this.

And yep! The clips were quite cheap and reasonable and to be honest, anything would beat the mixamo anim set.

@SA3D, even without audio, your “Robot Football” short cinematic is genuinely mesmerizing. The quality and fluidity of the robots are truly impressive, and the energy they bring to the screen is captivating. :star_struck:

The idea of a robot FIFA tournament is an exciting prospect, and I wouldn’t mind seeing more of this in the future. Great job with this outstanding creation! @SA3D :clinking_glasses:

The pleasure is all mine! I am honored to know my words have helped to move you in such a way. It definitely doesn’t hurt to attempt adding audio fx to your creation, as it will only allow its brilliance to reach new heights! No pressure, of course, but if you decide to enhance your design, please share the results with us.
