Hey everyone!
I’m a solo indie developer currently working on Project Mist, a short first-person psychological horror game being made in Unreal Engine 5.
I’m looking for one level designer / world builder who would like to join me and help create the environments and level flow for the game.
About the game
Project Mist is planned to be around 1 hour long.
The game takes place primarily inside a house, but as the story progresses, the environment gradually becomes more surreal and impossible.
The player explores the house, solves simple puzzles, finds VHS tapes, hides from an NPC, and experiences scripted horror sequences.
The environment itself is a major part of the story.
Think:
- Realistic house at the beginning
- Increasingly strange room layouts
- Impossible hallways
- Repeating rooms
- Rooms that shouldn’t physically fit inside the house
- Environmental storytelling
- Psychological horror
- Carefully controlled exploration and pacing
The game is not combat-focused.
What I need from you
I’m looking for someone who can help with:
- Level layouts and blockouts
- Gameplay flow
- Room design
- Exploration routes
- Puzzle spaces
- Horror pacing
- Environmental storytelling
- Creating the surreal/unnatural spaces later in the game
- Building the levels directly in Unreal Engine 5
You don’t need to be a programmer.
I can handle the programming, gameplay systems, characters, cinematics, and other technical work. I’m mainly looking for someone who enjoys building interesting levels and spaces.
Current situation
This is not just an idea on paper. I’m already actively developing the game and have parts of the project in progress.
The game is intentionally small in scope, around 1 hour, so I’m not looking for someone to commit to a giant multi-year project.
Compensation
I currently don’t have a budget for upfront payment.
The position would therefore be rev-share.
If the game is released commercially and generates revenue, we would agree on a percentage based on the work/contribution involved.
I’d also be happy to discuss the exact arrangement before starting so everything is clear.
Who I’m looking for
You don’t need to be a professional developer.
If you:
- Know Unreal Engine 5
- Enjoy level design
- Like psychological horror
- Have some examples of your work
- Can communicate consistently
- Actually want to finish a small game
I’d love to hear from you.
If you’re interested, DM me with a little about yourself and any level design work/portfolio you have.
Thanks!
