I have been uploading Revit FBX Files to Twinmotion and the materials for all of the objects appear pink/yellow, and all glass is not transparent. Does anyone know how to transfer Revit materials correctly over to Twinmotion.
Hi. Autodesk stripped the materials data out of the FBX to make you pay for the full version of Revit. I am an LT user and here is my work around:
- Get the 30 day trial of full Revit and the compatible version of TM (i.e for Revit 2025, you need TM 2024, for Revit 2024, you need TM 2023.)
- Link your Revit file as a datasmith file to TM. All the materials should be imported properly and will now exist in your TM file. Save the file and close TM
- Go back into Revit and make your FBX export. Close Revit
- Open TM, open your file. Delete the datasmith import.
- Import your FBX to the same place (the materials will be blank like you had before)
- Use the eyedropper tool to pick and then drag/drop replacement materials quickly with the proper ones that came in with the datasmith file (they will have similar names)
- Now you can go on and use Revit LT and upgrade to any version of TM you want, as TM will still open the FBX. Just hit the reload button in TM every time you make a new FBX.
- Any new materials you make will come in defaulted, but at least you aren’t needing to redo them all from scratch.
finicky trick - select all your non-transparent materials and make sure to check “double-sided” and also “weather,” as when they come in from Revit these are missing properties and your materials will not block light or get covered in snow.
Hope that helps
sounds like you gave up.
