Dear All, I have been banging my head on this all day yesterday and today and cannot get this resolved. I'm using REVIT 2023 with the latest hotfix, and latest Twinmotion 2022.2.2.
When I start Twinmotion and I go to IMPORT, I see the Direct Link File, I click on Import, and I only see the objects in the Scene Windows on the right, but nothing in the screen, I rotate the camera all around and nothing. Then I hit SYNCHRONIZE button on the Datasmith Tab inside REVIT, I see the loading thing, but still NOTHING.
I have added the revit file just in case would like to try.
Any help resolving this would be much appreciated.
I'm having the exact same problem that you are describing.
After starting a Direct Link, it loads for a fraction of a second (not long enough I assume) and finishes. The model appears in the Scene Graph, but nothing is visible in the model.
Selecting the model and zooming to selection with the F-shortkey only shows the Gizmo-tool, but no model.
After tried almost everything, Including deleting various things, one by one, I could not resolve this issue. I had to trash that twinmotion file and open a new file and re-link my revit file and started the file again. So this problem had no solution, and as you saw, no one replied to my thread. In my past experiences in 3D, I have had experience where either an Autocad file or 3dsmax file goes corrupt, where we had to troubleshoot it, sometimes we had to go object by object deletion, to try to find which object was either corrupt or was causing the file to crash. Depending how far into the project you are, it may be worth trying to find the culprit. Sometimes we split the entire scene in like 2 batch of objects, trying delete the first batch and then checking again, and so on, until we find the problem object. I have tried it here as well and couldn't find the issue. I'm sorry that I'm replying without a solution, but at least I am giving you my approach in trying to troubleshoot these types of files.
yep same problem, I've asked my lecturer on the matter so if I get a response I'll pass on the solution. very annoying when I can see all the information the scene tab and there is a direct link. If anyone has any other ideas to try i would love the help as I am pretty new to both Twinmotion and Revit.
If I understand correctly, you only had this problem with one project, but starting again helped? I'm new to Twinmotion, and hadn't been able to import/direct-link anything from Revit yet.
Anyway, this weekend I tried the 2023.1-preview version of Twinmotion together with the latest Revit 2023.1 version, and in this combination the direct-link seems to work like it should! Same Revit model. Still doesn't explain why it didn't work in previous versions, but as long as this keeps working I'm happy.
Thanks again for your reply and your tips on things to try.
same problem here but with Archicad. It synchronize with Archicad and model appears in the Scene Graph but isn't visible even if I try to find it (F) - it only shows Gizmo-tool and that's it. I tried to open different files but not even one is visible so guess will try to download 2023.1-preview and see if this fix my problems cuz I'm currently using TM 2022.2.3.
The model may only be appearing in the Scene graph but not Twinmotion's viewport if an incompatible version of the Datasmith plugin is installed.
If you are using Twinmotion 2023.1 Preview 2, please use the 5.1.1 version of the Datasmith plugin.
For Twinmotion 2022.2.3, please use the 5.0.3 version of the Datasmith plugin.
If you are needing to install a different version of the Datasmith plugin than you currently have installed, be sure to first uninstall your current Datasmith plugin.
Our Importing with Datasmith documentation will have more information on Datasmith workflows, as well as Datasmith plugin install/uninstall instructions for Archicad, Revit, Rhino, and SketchUp Pro.
You can download the installers for current and archived versions of the Datasmith plugins from the pages linked here. Each page will list which versions of the modeling software & Twinmotion that each plugin version is compatible with.
If you are using the appropriate version of the Datasmith and do not see your model when first imported, try using the F key to focus the camera on your model in the viewport. If the model has not been imported, please use the Contact Us button on the Twinmotion Community home page to submit a bug report so that we can ensure everything is working as expected.
I've had similar issues when synchronizing SketchUp Models. I'll import it and click the import button in SketchUp, but nothing imports or updates though it does show up in the Import tab as a linked file.
Usually when this happens I use this workaround.
In TM, click the Import icon at the bottom, look for the linked file that isn't importing, if it is there mouse over it and click the triple dot icon, click "Direct Link Settings", then hit Ok or cancel.
You can also try clicking the little recycle import icon next to the triple dot icon, sometimes that works too.
These methods will only work when I have the actual file that I am trying to link open within SketchUp.
Doing this usually will force the import for some reason.
I don't know if this is of help to anyone, but the exact steps I took to get this to work are as follows:
Open my Revit-model (2023.1), prepare my file as needed. I create a seperate 3D view to sync to Twinmotion;
Open Twinmotion (2023.1) new file;
In Revit, tab "Datasmith", here I choose the new 3D view I created;
In Twinmotion: import, Direct Link, it already recognizes that a Revit-file is open. The linking process "starts", the model appears in the Scene Graph but nothing is visible;
In Revit: tab "Datasmith", click Synchronize. First Revit loads for some seconds, then Twinmotion loads for some seconds, then my model appears in Twinmotion!
So I just went into uni to use the pcs there but now desperate to get this up and running at home, installed 5.0.3 and continuously crashes every time try to import. Do you think a different datasmith version will work with revit 2023. massive assignment due tue need all the help I can get to get this sorted. thanks in advance.
The Revit Datasmith plugins will each only be compatible with certain versions of Revit and Twinmotion. The 5.0.3 plugin is compatible with Revit 2023 and Twinmotion versions 2021.1.4 - 2022.2.3. The 5.1.1 version of the plugin is compatible with Revit 2023 and Twinmotion 2023.1 Preview 2.
Our Datasmith Exporter for Revit page will include the plugin downloads, along with information on which versions of the software are compatible. https://www.twinmotion.com/plugins/revit
If you are using the correct version of the Datasmith and experiencing a crash, it may be helpful to first try re-installing the plugin. Information on installing and uninstalling the plugin is available here: Installing the Datasmith Plugin for Revit
