Reverb Issues in 5.4

I am experiencing an issue with the Reverb effect assigned in Audio Volumes. The reverb does not function unless the Master Reverb Submix Effect is enabled, even when all other routing appears to be correctly configured.

This happens regardless of whether the SoundClass is routed through ambient volumes or not. Currently, SoundClasses are being routed through the submix, so this may be related.

Current Setup

  • Audio Volumes placed in the level

  • Reverb assets assigned directly to the Audio Volumes

  • No explicit Submix Sends used

  • Attenuation set to send to Reverb

  • SoundClass is not set to apply ambient volumes and is sending to Master Reverb(with a reverb), and different submixes (no reverb)

With this configuration, I’d expect the reverb to be driven purely by the Audio Volume and its assigned Reverb asset.

Observed Behaviour

The Reverb asset produces no audible effect unless the Master Reverb Submix Effect is enabled. Once enabled, the reverb works as expected.

Expected Behaviour

Reverb assets assigned to Audio Volumes should function independently and should not require the Master Reverb Submix Effect to be enabled in order to work.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Create an Audio Volume and assign a Reverb asset

  2. Ensure Attenuation settings send to Reverb

  3. Ensure SoundClass applies ambient volumes and routes to Master Reverb

  4. Disable the Master Reverb Submix Effect

  5. Play audio within the Audio Volume

Result: No reverb is applied

  1. Enable the Master Reverb Submix Effect

Result: Reverb functions correctly

Am I misunderstanding the routing, or doing something wrong?
