This was asked in 2015 but I wanted to ask again; What makes more revenue, Unreal Engine with licenses, royalties, and fees for games and non-games usage, or the Games they create/own (i.e. Fortnite, Rocket League, etc.). Epic does not share this information publically due to its private status and I want to respect that and also get my question answered. The reason I ask is because there are more industries, apps, and games using UE than ever but Fortnite is a huge bankroll. Epic has agreements with MS, Apple (sort of), Steam, and Google who all have corporate accounts. This does not include game companies like Ubisoft who used it for AC Valhalla. 2018-2019 numbers are included in the Apple lawsuit but the COVID bump is gone. People are playing and spending less causing cutbacks (suck) but at the same time, people are still spending around $80 on average each Fortnite Season and with over 125M players, well that is quite a bit of money.
So, Engine or Games? It varies, I know, but GDC23 had different stats than the lawsuit so I am curious.
