Stick with me……
Now I understand the wording that skins and items were ‘exclusive’ to the battlepass terms pass and would not return in future passes of the shop. So why not bring back the pass as a whole.
For late players, like myself, I began playing over 3 years ago during Chapter 5 season 2. This means I missed out on over 1000 items including around 260 skins, including about 35 from popular culture. Great skins like The Predator, Optimus Prime, Snake, Mandolorian, Darth Vader, Deadpool to name just a few but also great ‘homemade’ skins from the development team around Epic.
My idea/question is why not say quarterly bring back a previous battlepass as a whole so newer players can get currently unobtainable skins or those who didn’t complete them have a renewed opportunity.
There could even be the opportunity to bring back the island as it was when said battlepass was out to ‘time jump’ to that island and its inhabitants of that time like the OG game form to earn points for said battlepass or even the current depending on maybe a choice on where to spend the XP. That old island can then have its own weeklies etc. and allow newer player to experience how the island has evolved but also for older player to take a trip down memory lane.
This I feel then loopholes the exclusivity they set out because the skins/items are not returning outside of that battlepass that is not new. In my very limited knowledge of law.
Also this will generate revenue not just for Epic with the sale of a previous pass but for that franchise, say the chapter with Optimus Prime would have some watching the movies or exploring that character.
A previous argument I’ve had with “well the skins were because it was supporting the release of a movie/show” which may have been the case but with the way we consume media now old shows are discovered or revisited all the time so say the pass with Mandolorian returns then people may or may not explore that show for the first time or revisit.
There was also the talk of the agreements with skins and the ability for Epic to use them again. Like I put earlier; about 35 are from various franchises with 19 being Marvel= Disney (Spider-Man and Prowler might be Sony) 3 or 4 are Star Wars = Disney. 3 or 4 are DC, various movie franchises and TV shows, most of which have other characters from the shows/movies returning to the item shop (Family Guy, Rick and Morty example) not sure who owns license to Indiana Jones but I know Harrison Ford will be cool about it because Hans Solo returns around May 4th. The in-house skins might not be as straight forward as I am thinking but then again it might be as simple as Epic own them so 200+ skins already have the green light to return with the whole pass.
Look, I know there are more logistics than I am seeing and more agreements that will need to be sorted etc etc but surely this is a viable answer to solve the biggest hurdle or gate keeping older players who probably never rarely use those skins who act like they went in the trenches to get them.
You take other games and some no matter how late you start you can play catch up like Arc Raiders and there ‘passes’ decks. I started late and have completed all 3, finally convinced my friend to play it and he is able to start from number 1 so he hasn’t missed out on cosmetics and was surprised that was the case.
I am also aware this is a first world problem and it is just pixels on a screen but the fact the pixels can’t look like Carnage because I took a break from gaming as a whole for a while and this seems to me like a solid idea.
What do others think and how do I get this to the right people in Epic but I can imagine this has already been thought of.
Be kind. Thanks. Paul
