Responding is an open world simulator sandbox set in a fictional state of New York where you as the player get to play as a police officer, firefighter or paramedic.
Currently my focus has been on the police department creating Artificial Intelligence that behaves realistically in each unique scenario and this has been achieved by creating an identity for each individual AI that contains information about it’s past and current lifestyle. By creating these identities it gives each callout a lot more depth as it isn’t just a name checking simulator but allows for actual cases to be build based on motive and evidence.
So there are many aspects of Responding that I will explain more in depth in future video’s but for now, after 5 years of blood sweat and tears I’ve finally combined some mechanics for a gameplay video.
I’m extremely curious to know what you all think of it!
Huge grats on getting to this point. After five years of hard work, you’ve most definitely made something fundamentally unique and innovative. This project seems like the sort of game that would have a different experience after each launch. A short video surely can’t express the game mechanics, but from what I can see there are clearly tons of interesting ways to interact with the world.
I look forward to learning more about the project and maybe seeing the firefighter version next!
I’ve given some of my supporters a prototype build that they’ve been playing around with and testing, so far has been very succesfull. Wanted to share some screenshot from 1 of the callouts.
There is now a huge risk factor on stopping vehicles, individuals may now step out of the car and start shooting at officers but solely dependent on if they have a reason to, so a criminal background or carrying something illegal.
It’s been quite a while since the last update so I’m absolutely thrilled to see more from this Especially since it was one of those projects that I remembered even a year later. The progress you’ve made since the last post is also kind of incredible. The game looks great! Is release happening soon or is the demo more of an “Alpha 1” type stage?
The process to get the entire project updated to UE5 has been quite challenging and time consuming to say the least, do really appreciate those kind words!
The game is still in an pre-alpha (development branch) stage as the gameplay requires some more replay ability and depth before I want to consider going into alpha.
This is some awesome work you’ve done here. Catching up from the first video up until your most recent update has been a lovely journey! I’m so eager to see what you’ll create going forward and hope to get the chance to play once the game is released! These types of games are right up my alley and I cannot tell you how long I’ve sat and played games similar for hours on end.
Excited to see what more you do! Please keep up the good work and remember to take breaks and drink water!
Traffic stops are one of the more common daily rituals a police officer faces on a tour, Responding has slowly been improving all aspects of the traffic stop experience and this is not where it stops. Next up are the ticket printing system, faster methods of filling out a summons and even more investigating details with interlinked data in the DAS system!
AI medic response to a gunshot victim.
Current systems are still rudimentary as the main development focus is on the police department, but over time a lot more detail and depth will be added to these roles.
