Request: Make It Easy and Quick to Identify Whether the Launch Session Connects to PC or Platform

Hey Epic,

I would like to request the Launch Session process to clearly indicate whether the session is being started on the PC running UEFN or on the platform. It should be easy to see which mode is currently selected at a glance.

For example, if the button icon changed depending on whether the session is launching on the PC or the platform, it would be easier to recognize the selected mode even when the button is minimized due to editor UI settings.

Currently, the Launch Session button menu allows users to choose between launching the session on the PC running UEFN or on the platform, but the selected option is not visible unless the menu is opened. While this is a minor issue, it can lead to wasted time due to human error.

I would appreciate it if you could consider this request.

Thank you

I would disagree I feel that information could possibly take uneeded space, plus If you have fortnite already open in another platform no matter what its chosen as. If I remember correctly it would still connect to that platform

Yeah, I don’t want the space for displaying additional information to take up more room than necessary either.

That said, in this case, if the icon on the current “Launch Session” button simply switches based on the connection destination, it wouldn’t take up additional space and seems like a reasonable compromise. This request is not about adding extra information somewhere in the editor.

Also, as you mentioned, if Fortnite is already running, it will connect. However, in this case, if Fortnite is not running on the platform and is launched on the PC, a timeout occurs, and no session is connected. While this behavior itself is not incorrect, I believe we could improve the process to avoid wasting time due to minor configuration differences.

Im confused shouldn’t you have it always set as “Launch On This PC” if Fortnite is NOT open anywhere it opens fortnite on the pc, and if fortnite is already open either on pc or another platform it just connects that platform to the edit session. Is that not what happens?

Yes, that’s exactly right. It’s a very simple matter—if a user doesn’t want to connect the session to Fortnite, they can avoid this issue by setting the option to “Launch On This PC.”

But, there is always a chance of forgetting to do this. When working on multiple projects and conducting various tests, it’s possible to occasionally overlook switching the setting.

Personally, I think it would be more user-friendly if the icon changed in the same way it does when the button enters the End Session state.
