In Static mesh browser, import settings, checking ‘replace vertex color’ does not let me reimport mesh with original vert colors. What I painted in the editor(and copied to source mesh) is stuck with the model and does not get replaced.
Hi Pinepanda -
The Check box for “replace vertex color” will only affect the model on the next reimport. So, with it checked, go to the content browser and reimport model and the source’s vertex colors from the FBX will be imported onto the Static Mesh and with it unchecked the model will be brought back into the engine but retain the assigned vertex colors in the editor.
Hope this helps and let me know if you need more -

The workflow you mentioned is what I tried(re-importing) and did not work. Did you try it yourself?
Hey Pinepanda -
Yes it works with my mesh. I would be happy to test your mesh if you would like to link your FBX.
Thank You

I get this too, re-import doesn’t work and there seems to be no way to reset my mesh to the FBX’s vertex colours without deleting it completely and re-importing fresh. Is this a known bug? v4.22.2
I have this issue from time to time, couple of things to check,
1- make sure that in your modeling tool, in my case maya that you flood your verts to white and alpha
(always forget this anoying part) before painting.
2- change your import settings to REPLACE, save, close the window
3- reimport mesh
4- debug by changing the view mode to alpha or rgb to see if it’s working
5- annoying part 2 make sure if dealing with the alpha channel and painting in unreal that the flag is check to paint the channel and make sure that the alpha you are messing with isn’t the erase one but the paint one.

I hope this checklist helps as it’s easy to miss one and make it seem like isn’t working anymore.
