Replacing skeletal mesh, use same skeleton and animations as before

Sorry in advance, zero animation experience. I’m adding content to a project in UE 4.27, and I want to take an existing actor and replace their skeletal mesh while keeping the same animations intact. Is there any way to do this?

Or in other words I want to create a skeletal mesh by importing a static mesh (fbx) and creating a skeletal mesh using a skeleton that is meant for a completely different object. I want the animations to still perform “invisibly” but the object not really match up what the skeleton was meant for.
