Render Focus Rule is still visible even when set to "Never"

I’m working on an inventory grid system where you navigate through the cells of the grid with keyboard focus. I have set the Render Focus Rule (Blue Outline) to “Never” appear on screen and when I set the keyboard focus to the first cell in my Uniform Grid Panel it is properly not shown, yet when I navigate in a direction from that first cell it shows itself with a blue outline again.

Please help me permanently disable this outline or help me find the reason why navigating in a direction in the Uniform Grid Panel allows the focus rule to show itself.
Thanks.

I’ve attached reference images of my problem. The yellow square is the current selection and doesn’t appear with the focus rule initially.

The focus rule outline only seems to appear when navigating through this widget in world space, however I need this widget to be world space so I can apply it to a plane as a texture. Any advice to work around this would be appreciated

I solved the issue by setting the navigation of the buttons in the grid manually instead of letting it escape to the widget next to it.
