Renamed project file and assets lost references

What type of bug are you experiencing?

Hello,

I have an issue with the assets in my contents browser not working as expected.
Earlier today I renamed my project file and the folder containing all my stuff inside the content folder. I did this from windows explorer. I then tried open the project a while later, but it got stuck at 83%. I did some research and I realized I had spaces and dashes in the project file name. I removed those and it now opened. Inside the editor I noticed the content folder was completely empty, however I could see all the assets from the window explorer, but inside the editor it was empty.

If I close the project, rename the folder containing my stuff inside the content folder, and open the editor again, the content is now there. The issue is however all reference and links seem to be gone. if I go into a blueprint that contains static mesh components, all of these components now have no static mesh assigned to them. If I go into a shader, all the texture samples are empty. The textures and static mesh assets are still in the project, just not assigned in the blueprints/shaders.

Is there any way to fix this? it would be a huge pain to manually reassign everything. Thanks!

Edit: I fixed it! I simply renamed the project file and content folder file into their original names and now everything works!

Glad you figured it out. Golden rule, don’t change things from the windows explorer

There are some exceptions to this, but generally it’s not a good idea. Everything is linked, take a look at
