I would love the ability to rename variables using GET nodes for that variable. For example, for node like this:
&stc=1&d=1433119811
You can Promote to Variable on the input pin and get a new node that is in an edit mode like this:
&stc=1&d=1433120397
This would allow you to immediately edit the name of the variable without going to the sidebar. It would also be AWESOME if we could edit these input nodes at any time, resulting in the variable being renamed everywhere. I think this would be a productivity boost, because you may be using a variable in an input pin, and immediately realize that its name is not appropriate, and so rename it there directly, at the site of its use, without losing focus on your node network.
Thank you for the great idea, I have passed it along to our developers for additional review as a feature request. If you would like to check on this feature request in the future, please refer to: UE-16482
Thank you for your feature request. Our developers have reviewed UE-16482 and have decided not to complete the request. The reason is because we’re worried that it would be confusing to others. Some may expect to be able to change which variable they’re referencing (e.g. hit F2 to edit, then type B instead of A, when B already exists), rather than having them rename it.
Let us know of any other ideas you may have in the future. Thanks!
A possible solution would be offering a renaming option via a context menu for get/set nodes.
It could be described as “Rename variable declaration” or something alike.
This way, any ambiguity could be avoided.
