Remove UE4 Desktop Icon

I have two games ready for deployment and the software I am using to make the exe file does not change the desktop icon. I have changed the icons in the Unreal Engine settings and I have even tried replacing the .ico file with my .ico file in the folders.

I have seen other people with this problem and I just need to know how to do it. All other images show correctly like the splash image the install images, etc but once the game is installed the desktop icon is the UE4.

Any information on how to fix this or if this is a bug would be great. Thanks

Until the engine bug is fixed you could use a “normal” windows icon editor tool (like the one included in Visual Studio) to change the .exe’s icon.

That should work, as in the end it’s just a normal Win32 executable.

Howdy Airwaves,

Thank you for reporting this issue. I have written up a Jira (Bug) report for this issue in the past and have just checked on the status of the issue. The bug has been fixed, verified, and closed. This all has happened recently so the bug should be fixed in a future release of UE4. At this time, I am uncertain as to when this release will become public.

Thanks and have a great day!

Thank you. Do you know of any way to manually remove it for now? Or do you know if it stays in would I get in trouble if people see the icon? I make math games for kids and I doubt they care what icon they see but I would not want to get in trouble for it being there.

I can get the .exe icon changed with Actual installer. Once the people install it thought the desktop icon shows the UE4 logo. I do not want to change the .exe icon as that is already changed it is when it installs. I realize this may not be the forum for this type of technical stuff.
