Releasing a game

Two Questions
1 if i build a game do we have to pay you or do you take some money on what the game makes

2 what if we make the game free do we still get charged

I REALLY recommend you to read EULA: ://www.unrealengine.com/eula
Supershort answer:
You pay 5% revenue, if your game makes more than 3000$ per quarter. Also it’s calculated by quarter, so if in first quarter you made 3500$ - you pay 5% from 500$ (3500$-3000$) and if in next quarter you made 2500$ you pay nothing(2500$ < 3000$) and so on.

No charge at all if game is truly free. But if game have advertisment and your profit from them exceeds 3000$ - same scheme as above.

Hi there, welcome to the forums!

Royalties are due on a quarterly basis so you would create a report outlining your income along with your royalty payment. Royalties are 5% of anything more than $3000 per quarter, if you make less than that amount, no royalties are due. For more info on please have a look at the FAQ here.

If you release it for free, you don’t have any income so there is no royalties due whatsoever. So long as there is no income, it does not need to be reported to Epic.

Hope that answers your questions, let me know if you need more info!
