[RELEASED] for UE4: Complete Sky and Weather System

Hola Nacho,
After compiling VXGI branch, I install the plugin version pointing to “UnrealEngine” folder, but when I open the project, Unreal tells me that is not installed. Am I doing anything wrong?

Just double check that you have the:Engine\Plugins\TrueSkyPlugin and Engine\Binaries\ThirdParty\Simul. Do you get any errors or the plugin is missing and thats it?

Hi, it looks like you have the files in place, could you check that: Engine\Binaries\ThirdParty\Simul is also present? If it is you could try to reinstall the plugin. Is happening with the source plugin or binary?

Si, I have everything in place and get no errors. Just the message " project requires the ‘TrueSkyPlugin’ , which is not copatible with the current engine version."

I guess that they are not using the standard rendering paths (deferred or forward) maybe they are using cone tracing. We don’t support that tech :frowning:

I know @ had mentioned they had gotten it to work, but, since the inquiry of “how” came up, they disappeared. I wasn’t sure if the Simul team has had time in the last 3 or 4 years to resolve issues or provide a solution (demo, screenshot, guide, faq, etc)

Yeah, i understand that. I have been looking for at least 1 example of someone getting weather to work with transitions and … you are the first. Apparently Simul has never gotten it to work either because they were asking how you did it as well lol. I am just curious on how to get it working.
Last i tried i setup an array on a random timer and a loop. the issues i am/was getting is that the default time set in the sequence would not update to the current time and would either “rewind” or “fast forward” the new sequence to match current time. There was no ability to set the time to current in the new sequence before blending started.

Just thinking out loud , but, is there a way to force the time to sync across the sequences that we are using?
Just a quick thought process , but, like, clouds_1, clear_1, rain_1
if we play all 3 at once, but, hide clear and rain, so, clouds are playing, for transition, we could kick in the blend process …

begin play > START DAY/NIGHT CYCLE TIMER ON ALL > array of sequences > play sequence 1 for random time > show sequence 2 > start blend of sequence2 > hide sequence 1 after 10 seconds of blending > play seq2 for random time > random selection from array (say rain for fun) > show rain > blend timer started > hide seq2 … etc …

method would, i assume, kill performance, im just kinda pushing ideas in hopes that one makes sense …

Since, in all honesty, the only real is the time sync across sequences. maybe just looking at a way to kick that in active on sequences maybe the solution.

I think I mentioned earlier but for a system that will change from cloudy,rain and clear, ONE sequence will do the job. In the sample above I’m doing it in a basic way but you can add a little more juiciness to make it look cool.

I have run into a new problem. The TrueSkyLight that calculates the reflection capture updates at a very low rate and is very noticeable and distracting on very reflective surfaces like water. I tried to set the update frequency and blend factor but for some reason it’s greyed out. Is there a way to set those? is with UE4 4.17.

What happened to TrueSkyLight in UE 4.17, the parameters are gone.
I’m waiting from the earliest versions tha it’s fix by now,
Are there some problems? I’m the only one that have tis problem in 4.17?
My workaround so far is to use TrueSkyLight_component

The workaround to use the trueskycomponent works but I get a warning from ue4 that i’m accessing non-blueprint visible variables and that it will become deprecated. I can now speed up the update if I set it to 1 instead of the default of 4. But it’s still updating too slow for. It’s like there are 2 settings, the update interval (in frames?) and the amortization, and I’m now only changing the interval. If I make a mirror surface I can clearly see the change happen on a per pixel level. Also the blend variable doesn’t seem to do anything for me.

^ doesnt much matter since it doesnt work, same with time rewinding

SO time i am watching the sun go across, and thats fine
then the moon …
then its gone and the sun starts to display
then rewinds and the moon goes about half way up
falls back in “normal time”
moons gone … sun rises …
no rain.

EDIT:
“Cur Cloudy” set to 1 makes rain
time warp still persists
