Reimporting Skeletal Mesh Metahuman 5.1 greyed out / not available / not working

Hello! I hope you are doing all well.

I Have a question related to Metahuman Workflow from Maya to Unreal. My issue is that before the 5.1 update, I was tweaking my metahuman through the 5.0.3 reimport option when right clicking on some assets, especially for the face for the character.
This features was very useful for me to add some specific blendshapes from Maya to Unreal and other tweaks in relation with the rig. This was actually helping to keep connection within unreal (Hair, face control rig binding for example)

Sadly since the 5.1, this option seems to be no longer available. So I was wondering if one of you had an idea on either make it available once again or to have another way of doing this kind of updates…

I noticed This option is available once again when you go for “asset actions / export” of the skeletal face and then reimport the skeletal mesh once again. Sadly this seems to make the skeletal mesh deprecated and not working.

Maybe what I was doing was completely off in the first place, or just that this features was removed because considered unnecessary, I don’t know…

I hope you are doing well. I’d like to share a straightforward solution to reimport the skeletal mesh of a MetaHuman in Unreal Engine 5.1. Please follow the steps below:

  1. Open the desired skeletal mesh that you intend to reimport.
  2. Navigate to the Asset Details Panel and locate the Import Settings section.
  3. Find the File Path slot. To enable the reimporting option, assign a valid path to this slot (preferably, the path to the FBX file you want to reimport).
