Reimporting skeletal mesh breaks animations

Recently I’ve had a problem where I will rig a character, export it, then import it into UE4 and everything works great. Until, the model gets updated and I reskin the rig and try to reimport the file. Once I do this every animation connected to that skeletal mesh becomes broken completely with rotations in every direction. I’ve tried changing my export settings and using different versions of both Maya and FBX. Sometimes after about a dozen or so exports the problem is resolved, but never consistently and I never know why the problem is happening in the first place.

The solution was checking “Force Front XAxis” in the import settings. I hope others find this and are helped by my suffering.
