I recently got a refund I did not request. I’ve got no further info why or what this means for me in the refund-mail. Even after various mails with Fab support I got no info which steps are required now on my side.
If somebody sells assets on Fab which are not owned by him, you as Fab customer, get dragged into a legal mess and you have to remove it from your project as well. If your game is released already or not. This is a lot more trouble than the refunded money would compensate. I really underestimated the issues that could arise using Fab assets. I don’t feel protected if somebody must promise something and nothing happens if it turns out wrong rather than I’m screwed afterwards. Even the way how this got handled (refund mail guess what this means for you now) is weak. Refunding other (not yet reported) packages from the same person that caused that troubles (and that still may sell other packages) where more complicated than it should be.
So in a nutshell at any point in time any package on Fab can turn into a trojan horse that drags your project into a legal mess and if this happens you are pretty much alone with this issue.
It might be an auto refund when an asset you bought get copyrighted or removed, or the seller himself get banned for a reason. Is the product page still active ?
The issue is not the asset product but your product, the game that got dragged into copyright issues whitout any warning, info, apologies, support for further steps or possibilty to get rid of everything that person (that promised to follow the law and only sell items he owns) sold you without permission. Just a uninformative refund mail from Fab. Anytime you get a unrequested refund mail you’re screwed.
But as you asked for the product page. The product page got shut down after a DMCA. The seller did not get banned but published a V2 version. Fab support never told me that I’ve to remove the refunded items from my game but told me I should just buy again V2 from this untrusted person. Which did not fix any problem because the animations from V1 where gone from the V2 package and I would not buy anything again from a guy that messed it up in the first place and caused damage to me that way. Instead I would refund the second asset pack from him as welll which… was not so easy as expected. Also the V2 version got shut down soon afterwards as well.
Overall I feel like a burned child regarding Fab and left alone and nothing that prevents this from happening any time in future with the same damaging result. The refund mail does not compensate the troubles that you get into.
I know people deserve 2nd chances, specially since it’s possible to end up selling illegal items by mistake or misinformation, but recurrent offenders that refuse to stop stealing should be banned, no questions asked.
I really don’t know why it still isn’t like that in FAB.
