In my map I had a verse device with many editables. I renamed the file but that reset all the options for the deivce, so I deleted it. Now every time I try to apply changes to map map I get this popup. How can I remove these references that lead to nothing, because the device is gone?
I would like to bring to your attention that it appears you are giving your verse files arbitrary file extensions. You should be using .verse as the file extension. I believe you still have the verse generated creative devices still on your map. I would check that they are actually deleted. You should also use the verse explorer accessible from the file menu to check if they are still listed their, if so remove them using the explorer.
Sometimes this just appears one, when you rename or remove editables in Verse and rebuild them. If you close any Session (open Fortnite game) and Save All, Rebuild Verse again, then Save All, that is usually enough because editor will have realized that those old editables or references are not used anymore and just remove them from the project or whatever.
If this same popup keeps occurring, then my guess is that you still have an instance of the old creative device script somewhere (in your Outliner tree). Or maybe a blueprint. Delete those old instances/bluerint, Save All, Recompile Verse, Save All again… maybe even restart the Editor as sometimes it just won’t go away (happened to me once or twice).
Maybe you’ve already solved it or tried this but that’s how I solved similar experiences.
TL;DR: Remove any instance that references or is actually an old thing, and do Rebuild/Resave a few times without a Fortnite session active. If the Session was active when this first appeared, you might have to restart the Editor.
