Hello all.
I am new here and just starting to use and learn UE. And I’m already doing that with an idea in mind of what I want to realize.
Here is my question to you guys: Do you think it is possible to recreate a real city with simple resources (effort, money, time)? I would like to recreate a German city, or a part of it. The result should be used in a 3rd person game, which I have started to develop.
I have already searched the internet as best I can. It also have some interesting techniques, but so far the results have been rather what bird’s eye view, far away. The quality is too bad (Google to Blender to Unreal), you want to move as a 3D figure through the streets.
Do you have any ideas on how I can recreate a city as realistically as possible without getting poor and paying a hundred people to do it in meticulous detail?
A great result would be this one, for example:
Of course, I realize that the video shows something that is still quite Utopian for me. But maybe with simple means I can create something that is roughly close to that.

Hey there @Nomski86! Welcome to the community! So as you noticed, most data on cities like this is topological and usually quite useless for close up views besides getting a scale to work with. Also this developer likely just took some footage of the area 360 or otherwise and recreated the locations by hand.
There’s not too much of a magic bullet system for this unless you are local. If you’re local, you could try some photogrammetry using Capturing Reality or something similar (since we’re in the capturing reality side of the forums.) but in other programs you’d have to clean it up after the fact and add hand created assets either way as it’s never going to be as clean as a recreation. Capturing reality is a bit better than most other photogrammetry softwares as it does lots of the cleanup work for you. Main info page and tutorial below:
