Realtime building/interaction & modification blueprint

I am submitting this to the marketplace soon. This will be the thread for it.

What it currently does:

  • Allows you to place walls, floors and ceilings with or without snapping, and with or without a grid. This could be toggled in while placing things, if you wanted
  • Allows you to place furniture, light switches, curtains, cabinets, etc, with support for “walls/floors only” modes
  • Allows you to use furniture, including turning on and off lights via light switch, opening closing curtains, turning on and off a radio, and turning on and off the television.
  • Changing the color of any object with color sliders
  • Moving and copying objects by looking at them
  • Inventory objects like refrigerators, cabinets and boxes, that can hold objects that are allowed inside of them, with optional slot limit. These work just like normal furniture for moving/ color changing, except they can be opened and checked
  • Custom, easily changeable “Press E to use [item name here]” messages for each object
  • Optionally, you can set it so things can be placed in thin air, or if they have to be against something for wall objects like light switches,or on the floor for furniture, like chairs
  • This is all replicated and working in multiplayer, so that each player sees things as they occur, such as color changes, moving objects, spawning/placing objects and using objects

I’ve seen a lot of building blueprints on the marketplace, but none with these options, along with being easily extendable, hence me offering this!

Pictures!

A picture of the room I am currently testing things in, you can see it’s based off the realistic rendering demo. (I changed it, can you guys tell how?) :stuck_out_tongue:

Showing the light switch, I turned the lights off in the room. It’s easy to add point/spot lights to the switches:

This prompt is custom, per item. Here I show the door to my kitchen:

Prompt for the curtains, and what it looks like with them closed, in the dark. (I love this scene!):

The ghost for moving something (default, with no placement warnings), it automatically matches the look of the object, no extra work needed. Here I am moving a lamp:

Moving a couch:

I moved the sofa a foot from its old spot, and changed its color to teal:

I will add more pictures tomorrow. I want to get more inventory object examples before I show that off. :stuck_out_tongue:

Pics or it didn’t happen ;o

I am actually building something like that myself atm but depending on your pricing and how it works for real I might buy yours and build on it XD time is money after all

I added pictures now, for you!

Because you’re one person interested, I’ve decided I will indeed submit this to the marketplace! Congratulations , you’ve motivated me!

i’m building something like this for fun. May consider buying this to study/improve etc… .

  • Will you support rotate/move objects ?
  • Also, what’s price range are you thinking of?
ps: how do you handle lighting?

Yes, I already support rotating and moving objects, by key press/scrollwheel of your mouse, or by making it face the person that is placing it. Both can be toggled! I am considering a third method where it faces you, and after you place it, you rotate it, but I am not sure. As for moving objects, you can already move them by looking at them and pressing a key. I am working on a stylish interaction menu to go along with this, similar to the pie wheel of the sims series of games.

For price, I was thinking $19.99USD, but only because I plan to keep adding things as I think of them (for free, of course, no raising price). This is sort of a player building blueprint, an interaction blueprint AND a pick up physical object blueprint in one, so there are three marketplace items I’m replacing!

For lighting, I tried everywhere possible to keep the lights as stationary, but objects like lamps that can be turned on and off at will are dynamic. The light switches placed on the wall could be linked to lights in realtime, making them dynamic also, but it could also be linked to stationary lights during gameplay. (I only partially support realtime wiring so far, I need to get a stylish wiring preview before adding that.)

To recap, moving and rotating is supported, and lights that can be moved are dynamic.

hey man. next question: is this out soon

Well, I will be 100% honest with you, it’s all together and everything (mostly, I am putting polish on before I sell it to others, there are some rough edges that I just left in because its my personal stuff), but it will take me a day to get through signing up for the marketplace, and then a week for Epic to review it, and then…I have no idea, how long does marketplace stuff take? :stuck_out_tongue:

I say it’ll take a week and a half, including Epic time, so 10 days is my guess when you will see it on marketplace.

hey man,
any news
