Another user has recently reported a problem with Steam licencing on the Steam forum.

This is happening to me too. Licence checks happen every ten minutes and it seems that inevitably during a long job, licencing will fail at some point and it freezes the software (although my internet service is good). This renders this software almost unusable for me for larger datasets and has wasted me weeks of computing time as I use the software heavily. RC gives the error message “Reality Capture on Steam - Steam is not responding. Please make sure Steam is running and click Try again”. When this happens, I can still launch the Steam app from the background and it states in ‘Library’ that ‘Reality Capture is running’, but launching Steam doesn’t unfreeze Reality Capture.
Steam will not quit or restart while it thinks RC is running so the only choice is to force quit Steam in Task Manager but doing this and restarting Steam has no impact either. I can force quit RC but I then lose a day or two of processing. Since some datasets can take more than two days anyway, this has meant four or five attempts before success and over a week of wasted time. Presumably this issue is specific to the Steam licencing option so it currently looks like I made a bad choice going with Steam. Can I switch to direct licencing mid-licence? Unfortunately my 3 month subscription on Steam just rolled over but I can’t seem to get much done with Steam!
