Real-Time Architectural Lighting with DMX in Unreal Engine 5

Hi everyone,

I’d like to share a real-time architectural lighting project developed in Unreal Engine 5, focusing on dynamic and fully adjustable lighting workflows rather than baked solutions.

The main goal of this project was to explore real-time lighting approaches for architectural and outdoor scenarios, with a particular focus on DMX-driven fixtures and how dynamic lights behave in large-scale scenes.

Technical highlights:

  • Unreal Engine 5

  • Real-time lighting workflow

  • Lumen GI & reflections

  • DMX-controlled lighting fixtures

  • Architectural wall washing and beam behavior tests

This setup was designed as a real-world visualization scenario, allowing lighting parameters to be adjusted live while maintaining realistic results through Lumen-based global illumination.

I’m especially curious how others approach real-time architectural lighting at scale, particularly when combining DMX control with fully dynamic lighting systems.

For anyone interested, I also documented the full real-time lighting workflow in a longer video here:

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and experiences.
