Re-texturing retopo'd import workflow?

Hi, my first post…
I’m getting some great results with large 10-50Mtri models … am loving the software!

My questions are : after my ‘singleton’ models are unwrapped, textured, exported (both obj & fbx), retopo’d to lower ~500k quads & obj re-imported to RC in same xyz position…

  1. Is the correct workflow to re-unwrap to generate new UV, then simply re-texture keeping same unwrap/texture settings as on original, before re-export resultant model?
  2. Will this retain original texture resolutions projected onto the lowpoly model?
  3. I am getting UV texture quality 400+% & use of space 60+% using 8k uv/texture settings - is this normal/optimal or would increasing texel size to get quality at 100% be better?

Any thoughts appreciated
Cheers
Erika

Hi Erika

Yes, that is the way RC is working…

Yes, and you can change the resolution of textures on an imported model. Look in RECONSTRUCTION->SETTINGS->COLORING/TEXTURING->IMPORTED MODEL DEFAULT RESOLUTION

Where do you get the 400 % UV texture resolution - in the UNWRAP TOOL or ?

Thanks for the quick response and confirming the workflow.

I wasn’t happy with my resolution so fixed texel style and changed texel size from 0.004… to 0.001… - then re-textured. Once finished, those were the figures shown in model properties box… I didn’t set them myself, they were the result…?
