RC working very slow after crash

hi,

I installed reality capture yesterday in a brand new computer (i9-7900X CPI 3.3GHz, 64GB RAM, GEFORCE GTX 1080 8GB) everything was working perfectly until I had a couple crashes today (i have the dumps) while realigning a set of images (705 in the full proyect) after adding some control points.

from that moment everything has become incredibly slow: the first time I aligned the 705 images it took a few minutes, when I try it now it estimates one day.

i have uninstalled the NVidia drivers using the applicaton you suggest in some other post and reinstalled the latest, but nothing happens!

when i start a new alignment now, the log file in the temp folder says it is using 20CPU, but task manager barely shows 1% activity.

i would be very gratefull to have some help. thank you in advance.

Have you tried clearing the cache?

hi, shadow, thanks for answering,  yes, that was my first move.

i have also emptied cache, uninstalled, manually emptied temp dir, rebooted and installed again RC, with no change. however, there must be some settings file somewhere i didn’t delete: after reinstall, RC opened last used directory when importing images.

Hello Jose,

Have you tried holding the shift key while the application starts ? If you do so, a reset menu will appear where you can select ‘Make it like a clean install’.

Alternatively, you can delete the ‘HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\CapturingReality’ key from registry.

Hey Jose,

did you get it to work again?

Hi Götz,

I didn’t come back before, because I am in production. I haven’t really solved the problem, but I have sort of bypassed it by starting again from schartch with less images. Not that I had too many to handle (707) but they have actually been taken by someone used to laser scanning, from not enough points. I still get a solid image in most parts (it is a building) but some shots are taken from angles hard to match with the rest and they contain usefull information.

So when I try to add new images to the main model (563 cams) the program completely stalls at feature detection. It runs a few features at full speed, and then it practically stalls, taking a minute or so per image to detect new features (default settings). A this point CPU, GPU and RAM activity drop and HDD keeps around 8 MB/s.

I know the problem is not related to the images because it doesn’t stop on a particular image (it affects all and any of them) and I have run the set on other software with no particular image error.

However if I run the application with a complete different set of images, it works fine and at expected speed…

Looks almost like once it has had a problem with a set of images, It stops working with them…

Reinstalling, register cleaning and cache emptying don’t seem to do much either.

I’ve also seen this behavior after a core dump on large files.  Both manually clearing the cache files and starting from scratch in a new project has been the only solution I’ve found.

That is really strange. Is there a bug report about this yet?

I have the exact same issue; been trying to use RC instead of Agisoft for a week now, and it worked brilliantly up until yesterday. ~500 image mesh construction crashed, now my alignment time has gone up from 5-6 minutes to 7-8 hours?

I have experienced similar behaviour with, admittedly, a problematic underwater fisheye data set. Has anyone tried deleting the hidden crmeta.db files that are created in the image folders if you have “cache image metadata” checked?
