With the last Fab update, you take past sale numbers from the UEM and from Fab into account when ranking products. This leads to old marketplace creators that already make a ton of money to make even more money while other newer sellers are shown on page 15 or something. Other sellers and I made a bunch of products but don’t want to upload them as the visibility for new products is basically non-existent. On the UEM we had a new release boost basically as it was shown on the main page of the UEM.
Please revert this change or make the weight of past sale numbers way less/make new releases to the top more.
I agree, half the products I use in my games don’t even have ratings in them and they are very useful. With the new fab ranking prioritizing popularity over relavence it makes it difficult as both a customer and a seller to use the store. Hopefully epic fixes this, @skfabby could you pass this along to the team responsible for ranking algorithms?
It’s always a problem, isn’t it? It’s even harder for art-related assets that don’t require support.
One way to tackle it is to introduce ‘new release discount’ like on UAS. That does help a lot there with new releases. Wish we would have something like that too.
i’m afraid it may result in more benefits for AI scam mentioned in other topics. With their 600 assets per day speed they will have constant boost while real creators who put time and effort will remain on page 15
I don’t have an issue with seeing ai made junk on fab, I see a lot of people mention it but I use the site daily and only see it if I go to categories->2d assets but even then it’s just icon packs so I wouldn’t consider that junk.
You can show relevancy without only showing what’s popular. To be completely honest I think most the people complaining about ai products on fab are lying because it is extremely rare when I see one.
If epic wants to prioritize popularity then that should be its own search filter, not the default for relevancy.
Mate, get off your high horse and stop powdering your own nose, just because you have some good sales doesn’t mean other people don’t have massive problems because of FAB and AI.
There are people who lost their whole income they depend on to feed their family, thanks to AI / FAB.
The 2D and music section is dead now to real artists, there is thousands over thousands of AI generated garbage, making it impossible to get noticed in the flood of cheap AI assets. There isn’t even a point anymore to start selling now.
There is a guy who uploaded over 4700 AI generated 3D models, all of them are garbage with terrible topology. Do you seriously think this is okay?
And no, using the AI filter doesn’t help, because most AI gen sellers simply ignore it and don’t tag their assets as made with AI.
Are you going through ten thousands of AI generated assets to check each if they are correctly tagged? Epic is certainly not.
You don’t have problems because you are selling plugins and shaders. Your opinion would be vastly different if that section would be flooded with AI generated assets as well.
Calm down, I sell well because I adjusted my products several times to adjust to the new algorithm. When fab launched I wasn’t selling anything either, so I changed some stuff, participated in sale events, and adjusted pricing and things got better for me. If I stayed with the format I was using at fab launch I likely wouldn’t be selling anything now. I just recently did another adjustment.
Part of doing business is adapting to the market changes, if you never adapt to changes that happen then you will die. There are code plugins released that use AI, all of my products have many competitors to them like the cel shader(some of which are free).
If you are a 3d or 2d modeler/asset maker you don’t have to sell on fab. unity allows those types of assets, you can make your own store and use google for ranking with SEO, turbosquid and CG trader exist for 3d and I’m sure there are marketplaces where you can sell 2d assets.
For your comment about sellers who flip assets, this is a problem in every industry. The people who upload low quality and easily reproducible products won’t do well, maybe the fab team could do some further tweaks to their algorithms to account for constant posts but you are not competing with asset flippers(or at least you shouldn’t be). I don’t ever see them when I use search for assets, nor do I actively seek them out. Every product on fab is not your competitor, only the ones relative to what you are selling.
I’ve seen your other posts and they are all very bitter and angry, so some personal advice would be to take some time away from working with fab and focus on something you enjoy.
