Random engine crashes

Hello i have a problem in unreal engine 4. Which is crashing to everything i do. Like when i hover my mouse into imported objects/things it freezes then crashes. Also when i move my mouse into settings then go down below it crashes. when i create a new blueprint and open it after adding things etc. crashes again.

it was also happening when i was using older versions

The crash window has a link to the folder where the crash log files are saved. Did you take a look at those files to try to understand what causes the crash?

yes i checked the log file but i couldnt understand the crash reason

Can you share the last part of the log file here? Usually it contains an indication of what caused the fatal error.

okay 1 second please here you go:

just in case i put all of the log so you can take a look completely

thank you for all of it btw

This is the error:

LogD3D11RHI: Error: Result failed
at D:\Build++UE4+Release-4.18+Compile\Sync\Engine\Source\Runtime\Windows\D3D11RHI\Private\D3D11Viewport.cpp:289
with error DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED DXGI_ERROR_DRIVER_INTERNAL_ERROR

It’s a crash of the graphic card and Windows tries to restore it by removing and re-adding the device. This makes UE4 crash because it loses access to the graphic card.

I had it as well for some time, here the most common causes I found:

  1. A corrupted Graphic Card Device Driver
  2. A conflict with other applications also using DirectX
  3. CPU and GPU overclocking

Try the following for each issue:

  1. Download DDU (Device Driver Uninstaller) and do a clean uninstall of your Graphic Card drivers. Then reinstall them. Check again if UE4 is crashing.

  2. With the Task Manager, stop all applications you suspect may be interfering with DirectX. Anything that records the screen (including NVidia’s own screen capture) or that improves the frame rate. Check again if UE4 is crashing.

  3. Temporarily turn-off any CPU/GPU overclocking. Check again if UE4 is crashing.

This should help you determine where the problem could be, but this is one of the trickiest errors to get, believe me.

thank you i dont overclock my computer i will try the DDU one thank you so much for helping

hey i used DDU but now i cant install my graphics card back do you have any idea? i cant even see it in device manager

okay i will try to reboot one more time

i rebooted up but there isn’t my grapic card on the place

Which graphic card do you have? It may show up under a different group. Try to reboot one more time.

It has happened to me as well a couple of times. Eventually the card comes back and you can reinstall the drivers. Check the tips here:

thank you i am trying something else i will let you know if that helps

To everyone having this issue to fix it do these:

1-) open device manager then go to graphics card section

2-) disable intel card and let the other one do the job

that worked out for me

i managed to get it back by just going into windows update. Thank you for all of your help.

So is your UE4 still crashing or what?

You are welcome. Just a forum etiquette remark for the future. You accepted your own solution which has nothing to do with the original problem, This will cause confusion to people searching for an answer to a similar problem because they will very likely miss the general recommendation which was provided above. Just saying.
