I’m thrilled to finally share my short film, “Rally.” After making its rounds at a few festivals, it’s now available online. Created in Unreal, it’s currently featured on Short of the Week.
This personal project was mostly a solo endeavor, and I hope you all enjoy it.
So glad I got the chance to watch this. This is genuinely such an awesome and creative short film The dialogue, animation, and character emotion were all so well done and polished. From beginning to end it felt action-packed and impactful without feeling cheesy. Utterly obsessed with just how rad the film is.
What inspired this project if you dont mind me asking?
I wanted to make something fun and exciting. At first it was a desire to learn Unreal but quickly I saw how powerful the program was and how liberating it can be as a filmmaker to experiment and try new things.
Ahh I see The good ole curiosity project development. The most exciting way to learn for sure Got any other projects in the works we can look forward too?
Firstly, I’m very glad that you shared this short film with us. I was very curious given the title what the action would revolve around but was pleasantly surprised. Your lighting, camera angles, and subtle storytelling is something that’s really appreciated and I think something you excel with. Throughout the entirety, I think my favorite part is truly the sound design. I’ve watched this trailer with TV speakers and my headphone and both experiences were so crisp. The car on the gravel road is something that stood out to me in particular because it felt like it matched the environment and the way that these items interact in real life.
I’m excited to see what you bring next and cannot wait!
I really appreciate you mentioning the sound! It was done by Theo Porcet - a fantastic sound designer and his team. He also did the music. So much of the film comes through in the mix and was a great way to push the story along without always needing visuals to communicate every idea. There even is a 5.1 sound mix of this film.
with so much talk about games with Unreal I almost didn’t join up, but after seeing your film… you inspire me to learn Unreal and make the stories I’ve been working on… Thanks for the inspiration…
On and off over the course of a year or so. Mostly on my free time. At first the biggest hurtle was just learning Unreal, its limitations and my own. But to be fair, I had the idea for the short a few years back - modified it to work as an animated film.
Thank you for sharing that information! I love that you were able to find a sound designer to help your vision come to life. While visuals are important, the sound design work can help complete the overall tone of things. Great job to not only you but Theo Porcet for your wonderful creativity. I’ll certainly be keeping an eye out for both of you moving forward!
