Stylized Water Material is a procedural, hand-painted-look water shader for Unreal Engine 5.8. No texture files: drop a plane, drag a preset, done.
WHAT YOU GET
- 6 ready-made presets: Ocean, Tropical, Pond, Swamp, River and Dirty. Each is a Material Instance you can tweak.
- Depth-based colour with toon bands, refraction, shore foam and foam lines where water meets objects.
- Wave-crest foam that follows the real wave shape, ripples, sparkles and sun glints, caustics, colour patches.
- Floating plants and lily pads (Pond / Swamp).
- BP_SW_River: draw a river with a spline; the flow stays continuous along the whole river.
- BP_SW_Waterfall: spline waterfall with impact foam, mist and ripples.
- BP_SW_Buoyancy: add it to any actor and it rides the same waves you see on screen (no physics simulation needed).
- 15 numbered parameter groups, so you find what you need quickly.
- A demo island level (L_SW_Showcase) with Play-ready start point.
GOOD TO KNOW
- Tested on Unreal Engine 5.8 (DirectX 12 / SM6, Windows). Other engine versions were not tested.
- Translucent material that reads scene colour and depth.
- Version 1.0 does not include an underwater post-process or a water-line effect.
- Measured on an RTX 3080 (1324x745 editor viewport): about 1.1 ms median Translucency for the demo hero view, about 0.4 ms for the pond.
- The demo island (trees, rocks, foliage, post-process) is included for showcase; the product is the Materials, Blueprints and Meshes folders.
