Quixel shenanigans

Today I had to download a couple of Quixel models for UE project. I never did it since Fab has been launched and here is my experience.
First, I tried to DL an environment because models are there, and came up with this:

Epic Geniuses!
OK, I’m not supid so I went to engine and tried with Fab plugin there. It didn’t work either. UI is there, buttons get pressed but nothing happen. All because I wasn’t logged in and the only indication of that is ABSENSE of little green dot in upper right corner of window. And there is no button nor menu entry to force it to relogin. And all of that because I opened Fab plugin from the Content Browser shortcut:

Closing it and reopening from Window/Fab menu solved the puzzle. Now I was logged in, but… they only have Quixel environments for broken versions of engine (5.4 and 5.5). So launcher comes in and DL of 5.4 was scheduled. While it downloaded I tried to find and install models individually. I wasn’t able to locate them by search (no wonder) so scrolling was the only option. And may God bless you while you scroll because if you occationally click something then you return to the beginning. Well Epic Games owns Fall Guys after all, right?.. So after some training and with a bit of luck I’ve managed to scroll to my beloved models and found that both are near each other. But if I click one I’ll lose the position in scroller and there are hundreds of models above.
I tried to solve that quest by dragging the models from Fab plugin window to Content browser. It worked for the first model, but when I tried with the second the drag icon wasn’t there! I saw it just seconds ago and now it’s gone!
Finally engine got DLed so I installed the environment and had to find models in the mess it put on my HDD.
Nice experience for Sunday I think. Probably it would be quicker to scroll down in browser and download them as FBX, but I’m not frequent Quixel user.
