Quixel mixer error - layer loading error when project open, wrong save path as (...saving)

Hi ,
I’ve been searching for days and found out that no one has the same problem.
When I save the project and open it later, the program stops in the “adding layers” step.
Even if I save as in various versions, several of them don’t open.
The layers loads well. But The preview icon for the layer is empty.
And Nothing comes up on the viewport.

I checked the xml file of the project and found that when the folder name of the material path was saved as “project name (…saving),” the file would not open.

[Xml file path Example : E:\Projects\Project\wood_board_NEW19(…saving)\Custom Sources\group 1_kz40klejgka2e12gcofyjw.0.paintmask.png ]

I waited until I finished saving the project and closed it slowly, but I don’t know why this is happening. If you know the solution to this problem or if anyone can tell me how to try to solve it, please reply.

P.S. The hard drive has enough capacity, and the graphics card is 3060, which I think is good enough. Also, I’m working on it with the viewport performance set at around 50%, just in case it’s heavy.

Thank you for reading this long question.

I have encountered the same issue of Mixer freezing at the “adding layers” step of opening a file.
Looking at the Player.log file (On windows: user\AppData\LocalLow\Quixel\Quixel Mixer) there seems to be an issue with the “\Quixel\MyProject\Custom Sources\basecolor” directory.
After removing every mention of that path in the project XML the file would open successfully , but without the paint masks that were stored in the “Custom Sources\basecolor” directory.

When painting a new mask I observed the “basecolor” directory being created by Mixer and containing maps with paint mask data.
After saving and closing:

  1. the directory was deleted
  2. some maps were deleted and some were moved to the “custom sources” directory
  3. Again the file freezes on the “adding layers” moment.
    This obviously renders Mixer unusable.

I don’t expect anything to be done by Quixel since Mixer hasn’t been updated for years.
Hopefully , someday, we’ll get something equivalent from Quixel/Epic .
