Hello. Can i use quixel bridge assets for academic research? I am asking because after writing an article about a certain project, the project is uploaded unpackaged on Github. Can i use the assets when i will be posting them later on Github?
Thank you for your answers.
Hey there @ZeroCreep159! Welcome back to the community! To preface this, I am not a lawyer and I do not represent Epic Games legally.
According to the Fab EULA the Fab standard license this is somewhat an ambiguous question. On one hand, this could be considered redistributing the assets (which is obviously not the intention), but on the other hand, sharing the asset via a private repo with the project itself for use with collaborators is acceptable. It seems like it might to come down to if the repo itself is going to be truly public or private with managed access or stripping all paid assets out.
5. HOW YOU CAN SHARE CONTENT ON ITS OWN
a. Sharing of Content. Under a Standard License, you may not Distribute Content on a standalone basis to third parties except to your collaborators (either directly or through a third-party repository) who are utilizing the Content in good faith to develop a Project with you or on your behalf. This means, for example, that you may share Content with your employees, affiliates, and contractors in a private online repository while you work on a Project together. Those collaborators you share Content with are not permitted to further Distribute the Content (including as incorporated in a Project) and must delete the Content once it is no longer needed for developing a Project with you or on your behalf. You are responsible for ensuring that any third parties you share Content with comply with the terms of this Agreement. You are solely liable for any violation of this Agreement by collaborators with respect to any Content you share.
Thank you for your answer. Technically, is it acceptable to create a private GitHub with the paid assets and manage access to it? Otherwise, I have to discard the paid assets if I want to have a truly public GitHub. Do I understand correctly?
From what I understand, as long as it is only with collaborators on the private project and it’s managed, it is an extension of your license to them though you are still responsible for proper use under the terms, so make sure your other researchers aren’t making the assets available outside of it.
