#16 Viewport Preview Audio

Did you know that you can preview audio that’s in your scene from your editor viewport?

Before finding out about this tip I would place a sound in my level and then have to Play In Editor. Walking around to gauge if the sounds settings were good or not. I would then have to close PIE tweak settings and repeat again and again. Such a long process that burns a bunch of time.

However, there is a setting you can turn on that lets you hear the active audio from your level directly from your editor viewport. It’s simple to turn on but kind of hidden away. You can activate it by clicking on Settings at the top of your editor viewport and pressing on the little speaker icon under Real Time Audio. Then you can fly around and tweak settings in a much more fluid way. It’s still important to play in editor every so often to get a true feel but this can really save you so much time.
