#14 Quick Set Sound Settings

Did you know when you import audio files into unreal you can use an existing audio files settings as a template?

This is a little tip I’ve never seen anyone talk about, which found out about completely by mistake a while back. It’s now one of my favourite time-saving tips.

Normally when you bring an audio file into your project all its sound settings are default or nulled out. There are a bunch of these settings which you should really have set up straight away to make sure your project is optimised and your sounds work correctly, things like; Sound Group, Sound Class, Attenuation and Concurrency .

You would normally have to go in and set up each new sound up manually, or if you’re a little more Unreal Engine savvy, you could use the Property Matrix. However, there is a much easier way of doing this. If you have a sound wav with settings already selected in your editor when you drag in a new .wav to your project. It will ask you if you want to use the currently selected sound as a template. If you hit Yes, then boom, your sound is set up and good to go.
