Hello! I’m new to Unreal Engine 5 and I have some questions about files. I just want to sort this out once and for all and get a professional answer.
What format is recommended for textures? I heard somewhere that the best format is .tga, but I don’t know if it’s true. Or is it better to use .png or .jpg?
When attaching a .png texture to a material in UE 5.5, the texture becomes brighter, what could be the problem?
What resolution is recommended for textures? I use 2048x2048, but is it possible to use a higher resolution, like 4096x4096? Is there a need for a certain resolution, or is it at your own discretion?
It doesn’t Does it do this with just the color plugged into the first pin?
If you literally just use the texture on a wall, and put the camera right on it, there’s never really any point in having more than 4k ( 99% of the time 2k is fine ). If you’re making a prop like a brick, then why use more than a tiny texture, because you just can’t see it. So it really depends on what the use case is.
If you want a big wall, a bigger texture is not the answer. Understanding how to use noise and combining other textures is the key to non-repeating patterns.
