Questions about Epic Content License Agreement

Hi everyone, I’m trying to understand this part of section 3:

“When you Distribute a Project to end users, you may permit end users to use, reproduce, display and publicly perform the Licensed Content, solely (1) as incorporated in the Project in object code as an inseparable part of the Project, (2) to the extent necessary for end users to make permitted uses of the Project, and (3) pursuant to an end user license agreement that explicitly disclaims any representations, warranties, conditions, and liabilities related to the Licensed Content. You may permit your publishers and distributors to market and Distribute a Project on your behalf, but only to the extent that you are permitted to make such Distribution yourself under this Section 3, and such Distribution will be subject to the terms of this Agreement.”

  1. Do “end users” refer to players or other people helping develop your project?
  2. What does "use, reproduce, display and publicly perform the Licensed Content mean?

Thank you.

these are broader “legal speak” terms that can mean anyone. this is so they can cover potential unexpected future situations.

what the license means in simple terms is that you are not allowed to sell or give for free the engine itself. Trick end user to think it is your own creation or that they need to take it from you instead from the epic official channels.

you may say that this is ridiculous, everyone knows that they can get it from epic, but they still need to write that down in the license.

second is that if you sell the game you need to pay the share of earnings to unreal. then if you give the game to someone else, you still need to pay the profit share.

means that you can sell the game directly or give it to a publisher to sell it for you. same license applies.

unreal can be used for more than games so “use = for example play a game”, “display = for example non interactive screen in a museum that shows real time renders”, “public perform = for example an artist “ghost” on scene at a concert”

any use is in any case covered by the license, those are just example they give.

someone that work with you on a project will get unreal engine from epic so you are ok with that situation
