Question about the new 4.8 CHaracter.

Is this the new ‘standard’ UE4 character or can we still use the ‘Blue Guy’ as well? I’m also having problems with the new Animation Starter Pack as it’s not downloading properly.

it is but you could still use the blue guy if you really wanted to, there is also a lower poly version of the new guy you could use.

I’m really sorry but that’s actually not correct. We have very recently had a change in policy about this. From this point on, barring custom characters, the new 4.8 mannequin has to be used for Marketplace submissions. You can use the lower poly version but the old mannequin cannot be used anymore. This also includes your screenshots.

Kenny: What issues are you experiencing with the Animation Starter Pack? Is it just stuck at syncing or is there a different issue happening for you?

Well, as far as the new Animation Pack thing goes the character does not show up. I’m going to try the low poly version tonight. The animations are there but there’s no skeleton. If this doesn’t work I’ll try re-downloading it. I was wondering though, wouldn’t it have been easier just to use the original, unarmed idle/walk/run/jump/punch animations from the tutorials and add in the gun poses rather than use all those other animations? I’m asking because the Animation pack does not have anything for an unarmed character.

OK I tried to download the low poly version and it says ‘Unavailable’.

about this… I have no clue how to update from the old character to the new one in a project, and simply loading the project doesnt’ do it. So do I really have to create a new project and copy the new character over?

Just note there is currently a problem with the 4.8 mannequin. The animations idle / run / jump / jump loop etc all have an incorrect 90 degree rotation on the X axis.
So if you are wondering why custom animations are not blending well with the 4.8 mannequin this is your answer.
