Question about texturing city landscape

Hi guys,

I’m currently in the process of learning in Unreal Engine 5 and I want to create a semi-realistic city landscape which mostly consists of brick roads although with a few patches of grass aisles and also a graveyard with mud/grass textures.

I’m a total beginner when it comes to Unreal Engine 5 or basically anything and I want to know the best way to approach this.

I tried the following things:

  • I applied a brick texture from Megascans to my landscape which looks quite good for my taste but now I don’t know how to efficiently create the other areas for my level (grass aisles, graveyard ground etc.) because I only applied one material to my landscape and I don’t know how to add the rest.

  • I created a super simple blend material with bricks, mud and grass textures which gave me a bit of control and I could vertex paint the materials but it didn’t look that nice because it didn’t blend that well. (Although I suppose with enough time and practice I could optimize the blend material).

  • Lastly, yesterday I fiddled around with the openland plugin which is more optimized towards texturing huge landscapes but with the help of the Custom Alpha Brushes I could paint over the city landscape and the results were okayish. I think with more practice this could prove useful.

I know that there are plenty other ways to approach this but as I said, total noob here so I would be grateful if anyone could point me in the right direction on how to approach this.

Thanks guys!
