Question about course learning

Hello, I’m a beginner developer in Unreal Engine 5, and I want to become a game developer. I started my learning journey with a small collection of courses that show which tutorials to watch in what order to make it easier to get into game development. I’ve already completed this course (Build a Third Person Character from Scratch | Course). In this course, we thoroughly covered how to create a third-person character controller. The instructor who led this course said in the final video that after completing this course, I would be able to create my own third-person controller! But I don’t really believe that. Honestly, from the entire course, I only understood a small percentage of all the things, and I definitely won’t be able to make my controller from scratch. Knowledgeable people or those who have successfully completed this course, could you please tell me if this course is designed for me to be able to independently create my own character controller after completing it? Throughout the course, I just repeated what he did. Do I need to go through the course again and dissect every step he takes, or what should I do?

Just keep going. Find a tutorial on what you want to do next, and do that. Rinse & repeat.

Eventually you will start to understand what’s going on, and be able to decide how to do things for yourself.

There is no such thing as a course that explains everything.
