I’ve been creating small game in Unity where the quality of nature is of prime importance: grasses, trees, water, outdoor lighting. Although I’ve had to write custom shaders, I’m sensing I’m fighting an uphill battle with performance.
I considered moving to CryEngine because its nature has the quality I’m looking for. But everything I read about CryEngine turns me off it, from the forum culture to the lack of documentation. I don’t wish to constantly spend days finding the answer to something that should have been documented in the first place or battling bugs that aren’t being fixed. And are indies actually completing anything with it?
I’ve been trying hard to move to UE4 because I like what I read, lots mores tuts, updates, but I just haven’t come across any nature scenes comparable to CE. Will it be a case of just having to code to get the equivalent quality or is there some fundamental limitation? Has anyone seen some vids of comparable vegetation in UE4? Thanks.
