I’m not sure were to post this. Last year in May, I figured out why creating patches with encryption would lead to a crash. I fixed it and opened a pull request for it, but it never got reviewed (it seems) or added.
The issue exists since 4.23 (the bug tracker shows 4.25, but that’s wrong). In contrary to what the bugtracker described, this does happen in normal commandline builds, too.
The tldr is, that, since 4.23, a default is missing.

Since that day we run on a custombuild unrealpak but I’d prefer to switch back to default.
Again, I’m not sure if this is the right place to ping, but could someone review it? (Guthub shows a review but that seems to be from a user and not from an engine dev i think?)
