Publishing a Fab Standard License asset (not UEFN-tagged) in an island — compliance requirement or technical guarantee?

Hi Epic team,

I’m a UEFN creator building an island that I plan to publish and potentially monetize through the creator/Islands program. I want to get this right before I build anything, so I’d rather ask up front than publish non-compliant content.

Here is my exact situation, stated plainly:

  • I’ve found VFX assets on Fab that fit my project, but they are offered only in Unreal Engine format, under the Fab Standard License, with no UEFN tag. As a result they don’t appear in the in-editor Fab integration inside UEFN. As a concrete example, a pack like “Niagara Magic Projectiles” by Sidearm Studios Niagara Magic Projectiles (Projectiles, Niagara Projectiles, Magic VFX, Spells) | Fab is offered only in Unreal Engine format under the Standard License, with no UEFN tag.

    • I would import their contents into my UEFN project manually (textures, meshes, and/or rebuilt effects), rather than through the Fab in-editor integration.
    • I am fully willing to do the work required to make the final effects compliant with Fortnite’s content and technical standards (Not Mature, sandbox constraints, etc.). My goal is compliant content, not a shortcut.

What I’d like clarified — and I’d genuinely appreciate an answer on the substance rather than only a link to the import documentation:

    1. License: Does the Fab Standard License cover incorporating and publishing such an asset inside a UEFN/Fortnite island, or does use within Fortnite specifically require a UEFN-tagged asset or a different license tier?

    2. Nature of the UEFN tag: Is an asset’s “UEFN compatible” status a COMPLIANCE requirement (content must be curated/tagged to be allowed at publication), or a TECHNICAL compatibility guarantee (recommended so it runs in the sandbox, but not mandatory as long as the final content meets your content rules)? This is the core of my question.

    3. If manually importing a non-UEFN asset is permitted provided the result is compliant: what exactly are the standards the final content must meet to pass publication validation?

I’m asking in advance precisely so I don’t invest weeks building on an approach that would be refused at publication. Thanks in advance for a clear answer.
