I suggest a strategic evolution for the Epic Games Store (EGS): decoupling the store’s distribution power from Unreal Engine. Epic should develop and maintain an Official Publishing Plugin for Godot.
While Unity is a direct corporate competitor, Godot is Open Source and already supported by Epic MegaGrants. By providing a ‘One-Click Publish’ tool for Godot developers, Epic can:
-
Capture the Indie Market: Divert thousands of projects from Steam to EGS by making the submission process seamless.
-
Expand Revenue Streams: Earn the 12% store commission (royalties) from games built on any engine, not just Unreal.
-
Standardize Epic Online Services (EOS): Make Epic’s achievements, matchmaking, and cloud saves the industry standard for all developers.
The goal is to make Epic the primary ‘Bank and Hub’ for the gaming industry, regardless of which creation tool a developer prefers.
