Proper workflow for the HAP codec?

Hello,
I cannot figure out how to use the new HAP codec. I would like to work with rgb+a video in UE4. I enabled the Plugin and restarted. I get an instant crash the moment UE attempts to decode the video (see crash output below). I am using the latest version of ffmpeg to generate the HAP videos using the .mov container. I have tried HAP, HAP Alpha, and HAP Q, all of them insta-crash. The resolution is only 720x540, and I am not using an audio track or embedded timecode as per the documentation. I am running on windows 10, and a GTX 1080 gpu (if that matters?). All of the videos playback in VLC media player without any issues. I feel the documentation regarding the HAP codec is extremely light. If anyone has any experience I would love to hear how you got it to work?

thanks
